Snow in Denver in May!

Well it's May 11th, 2014 and Mother's Day for some, Paul's 30th Birthday too and the day before we head further north. We have done all of our chores, Stocking up on supplies and food from Whole Foods and Walmart, topping off our Water Tanks, Propane and Gas Tanks. Did the Laundry and yesterday when it was much warmer we even took the camper into a tall car wash and cleaned off the bugs! We've been going over our maps and re-routed our route due to some road closings. We've decided to travel up I-25 to I-90 and with more highway time may save a bit. Since the South Gate of Yellowstone is still closed and Major Plowing out is taking place in Glacier NP, we decided to do Glacier and Banff on the South bound trip from AK. We will be checking with friends and family along this new route to see if a quick visit can be arranged. In the morning we will check road conditions and accident reports to see if the way is clear to head north. If not we will postpone until Tuesday. It was a restful day checking in with family and friends on the phone. Thinking of you all.

  1. Hi guys, the weather in the Rockies can be discouraging. I'd say, head west and get on the Pacific side of the Rockies! We crossed into BC at the Abbotsford border crossing. It should be a lot milder on that side. Check out the town of Hope, BC. Between all of the tree carvings and visiting the gorge where Rambo was filmed. This is a neat little town. The Fraser river should be starting to crest and this also is a site to see!

  2. If the weather warms up and you can make it to Spokane, jump up to route 20 along the border and follow to the Pacific coast. So many nice areas to drive through on route 20. Spend some time visiting Victoria! The longer you wait to head north, the better and warmer it will be! I hope I'm not giving you too much advice...We left for AK June 3rd and we were also early. They only opened the "Road to the Sun" in Glacier, NP towards the end of June. Safe Travels...Keep Blogging!!

  3. Thanks for the tips, we have decided to head west, we had checked out and are aiming for 20 in Spokane, to 97. west/north? Our niece is just north of Spokane, and expecting a baby any day now. I'll check out those spots you mentioned when we stop for the night. Currently on 25 N from Denver to Wyoming towards 90. Will save the Canadian Rockies, Banff, then Glacier NP for the return. We had hoped to get there before the crowds but will catch them later. Thanks!

  4. an addendum note: Pam had a beautiful baby boy, Peter. Nice and healthy. He has been sleeping only about 2 to 1/2 hours at a time and I remember how exhausting that can be, so we diverted our trip again and headed into Glacier and north on 93 after that. We hope to catch a visit with her later at the end of the summer, after she returns from the family reunion back east!
