On to Yukon, and Kluane Lake
August 5th, 2014 We got off to a slow start. There was still lots to do before we left and lost phone service again. I started a final load of wash while Bob took advantage of the warm water and shaved. We headed down to the Post Office and our Priority package of mail was in and a day earlier than expected! How nice.
Back at the campground we dumped our grey water and black water again. Also we filled up our clean water storage tank. I switched the load to the dryer and Bob started working his way through the mail. It prompted a phone call to AAA. No problem, the bill had been paid. It also solved the problem of why the check book had been off. The AAA payment had not been recorded.
One additional question about the car and motorcycle insurance will be handled later. At the IGA that morning Bob had also gotten 2 blocks of ice for the beer cooler and exchanged a propane tank. With the Laundry now dry we were ready to roll. (We got a nice call in to Don T. too!)
We headed south and were soon in Canada. Not long after that the road became quite rough. The worse we had seen for a main road to date. For around 75 miles it was mostly 40-45 mph and 30-35 in re-construction zones. We drove on stopping for a quick supper in a turn out along the way. One of my traveling crock-pot meals. Marinated chicken with rice and broccoli. Then we continued on. We read in the MilePost about a park campground along Kluane Lake that might be closed due to bears. (not realizing it was just the tent section and because it was berry season) So we pushed on when we spotted a large grizzly bear crossing the road ahead of us. We stopped to let him have his way at a good distance. Then as we slowly passed him he glanced up over the road bed to watch us leave. He was a big boy! We drove on and soon after that we passed a Canadian NP. Shortly after the park the road rounded the south end of lake we have been following for some time. This is a very long lake. We had just missed a beautiful sunset over the water here and it was getting dark quickly (10 PM). We found a beautiful turnout here with two Class A campers parked for the night. There were no signs forbidding it, so we settled in to Boon-dock once again.

I do remember seeing a campground closed because of bears and that's how we boon docked in Kluane Lake area. I also remember taking some great photos of a full moon with the mountains and lake in the background. Great memories as I'm sure you will have also for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, a full moon with reflections in a lake would be a lovely memory indeed. The moon has been setting just around sunset that I remember. That is when I last saw it. We have cloudy days and mist today in Haines.
